Summer Reading Challenge for Kids 2026
It’s easy!
1. Visit the library this summer
2. Sign out books
3. Look for your name on a chart posted in the library
4. Put a star on your chart ~ 3 stars = a prize from the prize basket
5. Repeat steps 1-3
If you earn 5 stars you may pick a ‘stuffie’ from the Stuffie Bin!
We hope families make library visits a part of their summer routine ~ enjoy looking at books and reading together.
Summer Reading Challenge for Adults 2026
The Alphabet Challenge
Read a book starting with each letter of the alphabet (not including “a” or “the”). For tough letters like Q, X, Z , the letter can be anywhere in the title. Read in any order, and mix genres (fiction, nonfiction, etc.). Track your progress by dragging the image below to your desktop to print, or pick one up when the library reopens in May. Read at least 10 books between now & Oct. 12, and you will be eligible to win 1 of 4 gift cards from the G’Town Store.
StoryWalk®
Our Storywalk® is located off Rt.127 along the Schoener’s Trail. Take Route 127 south 2.0 miles from the Back River Bridge and on the left you’ll see the entrance sign. Park on the old woods road.This is a short (<1mile) age-friendly, wheelchair accessible trail to be enjoyed by young & old.
StoryWalk® is an innovative, interactive activity that places pages of a children’s book along an outdoor path, combining early literacy with physical activity and nature. Created to encourage families to get active while reading, it promotes healthy movement, community engagement, and fosters a love for reading in a fun, accessible way.The StoryWalk® concept was created by Anne Ferguson of Montpelier, VT and was developed with the help of Rachel Senechal, Kellogg-Hubbard Library.
Our newest book is At One: In a Place called Maine, a love letter to the state of Maine, lyrically and graphically celebrating its inspirational beauty from the wilds of Baxter State Park to the crashing waves of the Atlantic. All of the scenes featured in At One were inspired by award-winning author Lynn Plourde’s experiences, including twin fawns who visited her backyard in Winthrop, a hike up Katahdin, cross-country skiing by moonlight, and an encounter with a bear while camping.
After your walk, draw a colorful picture that shows a place in Maine that makes you happy. Bring your drawing to the library to be put on display, and earn a star for your chart.
Book Sale

Sorting has begun for our 2026 Book Sale! If you have gently used books you think others will enjoy and wish to donate them, you can drop them off at GHS on Wednesdays & Saturdays or at the Library during our open hours. M&W 3-6 F&S 9-12
Books dropped at GHS are sorted by genre & and any that are appropriate for our library will be added to our shelves.
